I'm Needing A Nudge

Lately I've been feeling a little bit ho-hum-dee-hum.  Not unhappy.  Not depressed.  Actually I'm in a pretty good place of contentment with a lot of people/circumstances in my life.  God is good (all the time, of course) & I'm grateful that lately my prayers to recognize His goodness to me are being answered - blessing are all around, people!

So what's with the ho-hum-dee-hum?  I just feel unmotivated.  I've been staying up late.  I've been eating lots of good for me food but just as much bad for me food.  I've been working out a little bit, & I've been running not at all.  I've been starting projects & finishing nothing.  I just don't have a lot of get up & go & hit it!  I really need someone or something to light a fire under my lazy hiney & get me going.

Any volunteers?

What is your sure fire (ha!) go-to plan to get yourself motivated?  Do you set a list of goals?  Do you find someone to be accountable to?  Do you memorize verses on laziness & self-control?  Do you lecture yourself in the mirror every morning?  Or do you just give yourself a hug & be chill with the status quo?

Help, anyone?

a list sometimes helps me, but I do give myself a day or two to have a slump every once in awhile. Having company is a good motivator for me to have our house looking good :-). I have yet to come up with a good motivator to choose exercise over sleep. So if you come up with that key to fitness success, PLEASE DO share it!

I sure WISH I had a sure-fire method for getting myself moving! I have felt like I'm in a slump lately too. My dishes pile up and then I get discouraged because it takes so long to wash them. I feel like I'm constantly battling kid messes and just general clutter. I waste too much time, and know I shouldn't, but haven't conquered the laziness! I agree with Jenny that list-making does help. Whenever I make a list I feel a lot more motivated to get stuff done so I can cross it off. :) I think I need to set myself a goal to make a list every day next week and see how much progress I can make. In a weird way, it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one who goes through slumps now and then. Maybe we can encourage each other. :)

do something that you can accomplish in an hour and feel good about... like cleaning a junk drawer. that will get you inspired to do more. then reward yourself with a treat!

Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed by all I have to do and just don't know where to start, I give myself what FlyLady calls a 15-minute day. I'll set the timer and work on my Sunday School lesson for 15 minutes, then set it again and do housework for 15 minutes, then I might sew or exercise for 15 minutes, and ... well, you get the picture, I'm sure. It really does work and I don't have to use this method too often.

A list does help, and crossing it off is a great feeling. I need to get back to making a schedule for each day, because it helps to plan what you will do when. That way you can take into account the time you have available, your energy level at that time of day, etc. Helps you be more realistic in your planning.

One strategy that has never failed me is to set myself a challenge on my blog -- to actually list the areas I need to improve in, and then every day report my progress in those areas. You might find them on my blog by doing a search for "back-on-track challenge", if you're interested.

Hope you feel more motivated soon!

Jenny, you are so right about lists & needing a slump day. I just need to make sure I don't have a slump month :-) And if I really do find the key to choosing exercise over sleep I'm going to write a book about it & make my first million!
Carrie, I have the dish pile-up going on, too. And I agree that we can encourage one another. I think that a lot of us have the same struggles - even those who appear to have it all together!
Malia, the time limit thing is such a good idea! I think I may try that this evening with some yardwork. If I dedicate an hour to it & think about that rather than ALL that I want to get done, maybe I'll actually get out the door! Now to decide on a good reward... *grin*
Mrs. T, I will have to check Fly Lady out. I have never really read through her system. I know lots of ladies find her helpful. And the blog challenge is a good idea. I'm going to file that idea away for the future!
